Draft probes

A draft probe is a probe that contains Figma design data but no webpage URL yet. Draft probes are created when you send a frame from the Figma plugin.

Because a draft probe has no webpage URL, it cannot be run. To start a comparison, you complete the draft by providing a webpage URL. This converts it to a standard probe and triggers the first run.

How drafts appear in the Probes Overview

Draft probes are visible in the Probes Overview alongside your other probes. They have distinct visual treatment:

  • A thumbnail of the Figma frame with a Figma logo
  • A Draft badge
  • A "Sent from Figma" source label

Clicking a draft probe card opens the completion modal instead of the Probe Inspector.

Completing a draft probe

To complete a draft, you provide a webpage URL. There are two ways to do this:

From the web app — click the draft probe card in the Probes Overview. A modal opens showing the Figma frame URL (read-only) and a field for the webpage URL. Enter the URL and create the probe.

From the Chrome Extension — navigate to the webpage you want to compare, open the extension, and select the draft from the drafts list. The extension pairs the draft with the current page URL.

In both cases, completing the draft converts it to a standard probe and triggers the first probe run.

Draft lifecycle

A few things to know about how drafts behave:

  • The Figma frame URL is read-only after creation. To use a different frame, delete the draft and send a new one from the plugin.
  • Once completed, the draft becomes a standard probe. It behaves like any other probe from that point on.
